The Great Cookie Experiment – Brownie Kiss Cups

Four years ago today Bunneh and I were married.  So it’s our 1st and 4th anniversary all at once.  🙂  So thankful for everyone in our lives who has been part of this amazing journey.  Happy Anniversary Bunneh!  I lurve you!

And thanks, as always, to Julie and The Great Cookie Experiment

The Great Cookie Experiment – Brownie Kiss Cups

So, it turns out that the grocery store put Hersheys kisses on sale AND I had some coupons for discounts on Hersheys kisses!  How fortuitous, because I had a couple of recipes close together that called for Hersheys kisses!  Two weeks ago it was the Peanut Butter Kisses, and now this one.

This is a basic, easy recipe.  It was perfect for the busy weekend I had because there wasn’t a lot of work to put into it.  Take a brownie mix, bake it in muffin cups, and when it comes out of the oven, put a kiss in it.  Easy, right?

Yeah.  Not so much.  My friends never got to sample this cookie because it didn’t turn out, and it was all my fault.  First, when they say to use a Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie mix, I think they actually mean it.  Don’t substitute a cheap mix for this.  Second, when they say to put the batter into 2 inch foil liners, they also mean it.  You can’t actually grease a muffin tin and have this work.  Thirdly, mini muffin sizes aren’t 2 inches, and if you put 2 Tablespoons of batter into them, it’s too much.  The recipe was intended to work in a regular sized muffin pan.   One Tablespoon would work much better for a mini muffin pan.  When you make all three mistakes at the same time, you are left with brownie that has overflowed the pan, and gotten stuck in the muffin cups so that you have to scoop them out with a spoon.  My girls came home from school and saw the results and said, “These look terrible!”  They’re so kind like that.  Then they proceeded to eat all of them- down to the very last crumb.

This should be a quick easy, recipe with really great results if you avoid doing what I did.

Brownie Kiss Cups

1 package (19.8 oz) Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix

1 egg

1/3 cup water

1/3 cup vegetable oil

25 Hersheys Kisses, unwrapped

Preheat oven to 350.  Place 25 2-inch foil liners in muffin pans or on cookie sheets.  Combine brownie mix, eggs, water, oil in a large bowl.  Stir with a spoon until well blended, about 50 strokes.  Fill each liner with 2 measuring Tablespoons of batter.  Bake at 350 for 17-20 minutes.  Remove from oven.  Place 1 kiss on each cupcake.  Bake 1 minute longer.  Cool 5-10 minutes in pans.  Remove to cooling racks.  Cool completely.

  1. They tasted good anyway…maybe a little too good because they vanished quickly! Believe me, you are seeing the only good looking brownie cup in the batch. It was hard work finding a good picture!
